So what if Casey didn't have a date. She had never been to a ball before. She did not get many chances to dress up for special occasions. The Yule Ball was a rare occurrence and only came every so often and she did not want to miss it. Who knew when it would come around again. And when it did, she would most certainly not be in a school to attend, she was already in fifth year. The Triwizard Tournament did not come every year, she knew that much. And Casey would be disappointed in herself and regret not at least making an unknown or unacknowledged appearance at the ball. Maybe she'd stay if she had enough fun, even dateless and by herself.
She made sure to get a blue dress - her aunt had always said that blue was a good color for her, it brought out the blue in her eyes - for the big event. If she was going to do something, she had better do it right. Casey took a deep breath, let it out and stepped, alone, into the changed Great Hall. "Wow," she whispered. It was so different and beautiful, with the trees and ice sculptures. Why couldn't it be like this all the time? "Oh, sorry," she muttered to someone on her way to the punch bowl, grabbing a cup once she got there. She didn't need a date to be there, she decided again, and wouldn't be disappointed about it. Hopefully.
