Frenemy Fun? (Kara!)

Lily had been out in Hogsmeade on this fine Saturday, taking her mind away from Hogwarts by spending the day with Lysander. He had needed to go get something, a birthday present for a friend, and she had said she would tag along. She hadn’t wanted to, but she had done so anyway. She knew that it was wrong for her to not want to spend time with him, but honestly, she saw why he had not been popular before. He was smart, and very opinionated, and always had something to say, but not about anything interesting. It was always about school, or doing the right thing, or his family…honestly, Lily didn’t care about any of those three things. But she stayed on his arm and helped him pick out some new broom for his friend, and watched as he paid for it. He didn’t even have a Gringotts card, he actually had a bag of coins. Lily had almost blushed in embarrassment, and told him to put it away so she could pay for it, but she didn’t.

Lysander, though, said he was going back to Hogwarts, and didn’t even ask if she was coming with him. He left, giving her a “going-through-the-motions-of-a-relationship” kiss. Lily was so sick of the fakeness of it all, but she didn’t say anything. She didn’t want it to end between them, because then she would be single, and she couldn’t handle that. She wouldn’t be able to. Not because she wanted a relationship so badly, but because she knew she would end up going to someone worse than Lucian, and she didn’t think her heart could take it. Being with Lysander, even though she was unhappy, was easy. Being with someone like Luc took time and effort, and it still ended up almost breaking her. But she mustered up a smile and pretended as if everything was okay, thinking that maybe one day, it would be. Lie after lie after lie, that’s all that came out of her mouth; even to herself.

She grabbed a ride on the Knight Bus and went into Diagon Alley, deciding to forgo asking her mother or father for permission and just going. Maybe going there, further away from the Hogwarts crowd, would make her feel better. She really didn’t know what would, but maybe wandering around through crowds of people that would stare at her and whisper about her, good things, of course, would do her some good. Her self-esteem really needed a boost. Even though she seemed so assured of herself, and so arrogant and cocky, she honestly wasn’t. She was probably the girl with the lowest self-esteem in Hogwarts. She hid it behind her Prada bags and Gucci shoes, and her expensive earrings and make-up and everything else she used as a shied. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. The Queen B. was allowed to be wrong, if only to herself, once in a while, right? She walked amongst the crowds, trying to blend in. When she saw the one person she hadn’t saw in forever, she ended up almost causing a scene by calling her name. Lily managed to keep herself quiet, though, and put on a fake smile. She walked over to Kara, who seemed to be looking at maternity clothes. “Kara!” Lily said, giving her a fake smile and a hug. “What are you doing in the Alley? Shouldn’t you be at home, resting?” Lily asked, sounding absolutely uncaring. She didn’t really care, though. She looked at Kara, and it seemed that she looked worse for wear. She felt a little worried, but she pushed it away. Worrying over someone like Kara wasn’t worth it, because she would never get it in return.

When Kara had gotten the owl to meet Lily she thought this was the perfect opportunity to out the poor girl. Kara kind of wished that she would have just let the girl go after they had met and things would have been perfect. She knew that things had been changing, ever since she had come back and she was just letting them slide. Kara made her way to one of the carriages and instructed the driver she wanted to be taken to the three broomsticks. Kara had no idea what Lily wanted from her, but she intended on finding out.

When she had arrived, Kara was helped out of the carriage by the driver and she tipped him. "Thank you' Kara said to the driver and she made her way inside. The moment she reached the door Kara could hear Lily's voice demanding a drink of some sort. She walked in and found her ex-best friend sitting there sipping her favorite beverage. Kara sat down and dismissed the waiter. "What do you want" Kara exclaimed. Lily had no idea that Kara knew about everything.

Lily looked up from her glass that was nearly empty and called for the waiter to bring her another one immediately. Lily wondered what Kara's problem was, but only for a moment. It’s not like Lily cared what Kara thought, she was on top and she had done what was necessary to get where she was. Kara had been gone, just gone, without a word and it broke Lily’s heart. Now here she was again, coming back like nothing had changed. Ever since Kara had come back she couldn’t deal with her. Friends tell each other when they are leaving and why. It was just what they did. ”What is your problem Kara. I thought we could take a quick shopping trip. I am in need for a little therapy” Lily asked as the waiter had brought over another drink. Lily took a sip and it relaxed her. It was something about how the whiskey just burned your throat when it went down. Lily had no idea what was wrong with her, but she had a feeling that whatever she had planned on them doing wasn’t going to happen. Kara was in one of her moods and she was on her list.

It was only after a moment when Lily remembered during Kara’s absence that she and Scorpius had broken up and she and Lucian Avery had a very intimate meeting not that long ago, it was just before Luc and Kara had broken up. Now that she was thinking about it Chuck didn’t really seem that he was too broken up about it, like he had known why she had gone away. Lily would have to ask him about it later. Lily waited for Kara to answer her back, although she wasn’t sure if she really wanted an answer.

Kara had rolled her eyes at Lily’s comment. She nearly came across the table as she started speaking very softly. ”I know everything Lil’s. I know about how you backstabbed me, took my place…” Kara paused and fell back into her seat. ”Fucked my boyfriend, yeah I saw you” Kara’s voice had gotten quite loud and many heads turned to listen in on their private conversation. Rage had filled Kara and she turned over the table and watched as Lily’s drink had covered her from head to toe. Ruining her pretty hair and dress. ”You broke it off with your boyfriend…” Kara began breathlessly and spoke very slowly. She had her wand up against Lily’s throat and her hand holding her down so she couldn’t move. ”but mine… No one does that to me and gets away with it.” by this point Kara’s voice was very stern and she was speaking through her teeth.

Lily was taken aback. What exactly did Kara know and then she continued. Lily didn’t like the fact that she was getting in her face, no one got into her face and walked off scotch free. The moment she had raised her voice she could feel all eyes on her and Lily didn’t like it. Normally she didn’t mind but this wasn’t the school and it was a private subject between the two of them, she didn’t need it publicised. When the table had been overturned and Lily’s hair got wet and all ruined she began feeling angry, her dress was ruined and her hair and she wasn’t sure how she was going to get back into the castle with no one seeing her like this. This was utterly humiliating, but all those thoughts fleeted from her mind when Kara pushed her down and held her wand at her throat.

Lily had never once imagined that she would ever see this side of Kara, although she knew it existed, this must be why Luc didn’t bother fighting with Kara, because she was very frightening like this. She was Lily fucking Potter and she didn’t have to stand for this, she wasn’t going to stand for this. Lily put her arm between Kara’s wand and arm knocking her hand off her shoulder. Lily got up and pulled out her wand. ”If you’re ready I am.”Lily said aloud, which she probably shouldn’t have because she had no idea what she was getting herself into. Before they could get any further they had been forced apart and told to get out. Well they weren’t looking at her when they said that, but Lily had a feeling that something like this had happened before with Kara and some other people. Lily watched as glass shards flew everywhere and then she saw Kara walking out. ”You’ll be paying for this Johnson, just like the last time.” Lily had heard Madam Rosmerta say and she ran out catching up to Kara. ”Where are you going? We’re not done.” Lily yelled at Kara and knew it was probably a mistake, but no one did that to her and got away with it.

Kara was honestly surprised that Lily was actually going to stand up to her, but this wasn’t the place to do anything, she noticed as Madam Rosemerta was coming from the storage room. ”Johnson! I thought I told you…” that’s all Kara heard before she flicked her wand and shattered all of her bottles on the shelves and all her glasses. Kara had almost been out the door when she heard her continue ”You’ll be paying for this Johnson, just like the last time.” Kara rolled her eyes and tossed a handful of galleons on the ground as she walked out the door without giving a response. Kara knew that the last time her and Alex were in there they started a huge fight and nearly broke everything in there and they had been banned from entering for the longest time, but that was during their third year and they promised to behave or face the consequences of expulsion. Honestly none of that mattered now, Kara didn’t give a flying fuck what happened to her. When she overheard Lily yelling at her she turned around, grabbed her arm and drugged her into the alley. ”Honestly, I’m surprised you still want to take a crack at me Potter.” Kara said as she let go of the girl ”Go ahead, do your worst.” Kara’s face began to grin. ”You naive girl, you know nothing” Kara continued and waited for Lily to take a shot at her.

Lily had been waiting for a response from Kara, there was no way that this girl was going to ignore her. Who did Kara think she was anyway. It wasn’t like she was as famous as her, she was a freaking Potter and she flaunted it every moment she could. When Kara finally did respond, Lily was being dragged off into an Alley. Once in the Alleyway, Lily yanked her arm away from Kara’s hand and brushed herself off and straightened her headband. How dare she pull her like that. The words Kara had said finally sank into her, as she was a bit preoccupied trying to keep her balanced as she was being yanked off. ”Take a crack at you? I’d like to do more than that Johnson.” If she was going to use her last name, Lily was going to return the favor. Unfortunately it didn’t have the same effect, so that was one point down for Lily.

Kara had continued speaking and was it Lily’s imagination or was Kara not actually going to put up a fight as she just stood there waiting for Lily to do something. No, she was waiting to strike. Lily had to think like Kara, but the only problem with that was the fact that she had no idea how Kara thought or what she was capable of. Lily was genuinely becoming afraid, but she dismissed the thought and took a few strikes at her. ”Stupify” Lily said and the spell shot from her wand, but was easily deflected by her opponent. So this was her bright idea, she would use one of the unforgivable curses and run away, she obviously wasn’t going to get her ass whooped by Kara Johnson. ”Crucio” Lily said and watched as… as nothing happened, the only thing that happened was Kara’s face gave a slight twitch. It should have worked, she should be on the ground right now in pain. Lily started to back away slowly, now she was beginning to understand why people didn’t stand up to her. Lily nearly tripped over something and toppled, she quickly regained her balance and turned to run as fast as she could from this Johnson, as she had a feeling she would be beat.

Lily had thrown the first spell and Kara nearly laughed as she deflected it so easily. Was that all she had, or was she going to put on her big girl clothes and play dirty. Kara wondered and it was only a moment later when she felt a slight twinge when the cruciatus curse hit her. Maybe Lily was going to actually put up a good fight. Kara raised her wand and was about to strike when Lily started backing up and nearly fell over. Kara knew what was coming next and Lily had started to make a run for it. Before Lily could hit the end of the Alley Kara had thrown her own spell. ”Crucio” Kara said nonchalantly, and slowly walked over to the girl who was now buckled over in pain on the ground. She got about half way there when she sent off another curse Lily’s way. ”Imperio” Kara was going to have a lot of fun with this. ”Come back to me Lil’s. We have much to discuss.” Kara sensed that she better do this quickly, because something or someone was going to interrupt her soon.

It was a miracle, Lily had nearly made it out of the alley when she suddenly dropped to her knees, she was holding her stomach, and her head was almost touching the ground. It was so close that she could smell the dirt, which was nasty. So this was the cruciatus curse, why hadn’t Kara dropped like this when she had sent it to her. Something was wrong. Maybe she was naive and had a lot to learn. She really wished that Luc was here to protect her right about now, because she could really use some help. It wasn’t a moment later when she felt better, but was cursed again. She was fighting with every fiber of her being, this must be one of the other unforgivable curses. The imperius curse, but she was strong and she could fight it, she knew it, if she could only get her hand to raise her wand. Lily started walking back into the alley towards Kara. Lily wondered what she meant by they have a lot to discuss. She did as commanded and waited for her to continue.

Kara smiled because she knew that she had won. Lily asked for it and Kara tried to walk away, but you can only push someone so far before they break, and not to mention Kara had been pissed at her already, so it was an extremely short straw. Once Lily had made her way back to Kara she had sent out the cruciatus curse on Lily once again and then the imperius curse again. This was going to be a fun lesson for Lily, maybe knock her down a few notches. ”Let me tell you about what happens when you piss off the children of elite pureblood wizards.” Kara began and kept the imperius curse in place as she spoke. ”First, we learn from a young age not to defy our family, because if you do, you get hurt… sometimes with a curse and sometimes, with a spell, or sometimes you get shoved into a dark room and locked up for days without food or water. Your family teaches you to expect two of the unforgivable curses and you take them, without flinching, without feeling, because if you show emotion you are weak.” Kara explained and hoped that Lily was listening. She released her from the curse and turned around only to find Lily’s savior coming towards them. ”My, my, my here to save the day. You’re right on time Luc. It’s nearly perfect to have you both here when I have business with you both.” Kara fired a few shots at Luc and she knew that he would be returning the favor soon.

Lily had just sat on the ground, being hit again with the curses she felt real sick to her stomach, she was in so much pain from the cruciatus curse she could hardly breathe and she couldn’t move with the imperius curse on her, so she just listened to Kara. The unimaginable things that dark wizarding families did to their children were the stuff of nightmares. Lily actually felt sorry for them, and she was grateful that she hadn’t been raised like that. This was the reason that nearly all of them were as wicked as they were and were always sorted into Slytherin. It made a world of sense and Kara and everyone was right, she was naive and she was only getting a fraction of the dose they had received possibly daily. It wasn’t until she saw Kara turn when she felt better and was ready to strike Kara again. She knew it was a stupid choice, but she wanted payback for the torture she had just been through. A voice she recognized warned her to stop, and Lily listened. It was Luc, was he here to save her? She sat back down on the ground waiting. She wasn’t going to bother to try and run again, because she knew that Kara would just pull her back, so she had her wand ready to fight just in case.

Luc had been trying to enjoy his time in Hogsmeade when he had come across some people complaining about a Johnson and a brunette girl causing trouble at the three broomsticks. It could only mean one thing, Kara and Lily were together in the same place. He had noticed in the far distance sparks came from an alley on the other side of the village. ”Shit! he said to himself quietly and raced over towards them. When he had arrived he was greeted by Kara with a few crude shots, he dodged them and proceeded when he called out to Lily to put her wand down and back up. ”Lily no!” He hoped she heard him and when he noticed that she was sitting back on the ground it made him feel a bit better. ”What in the hell are you doing Kara. This ends now.” He placed himself in a stance and was ready to fight, sending cursed sparks back at her. Little did he know it was going to be an unfair fight because he saw Kara’s twin come up behind Lily and grab her arms.

Kara dodged his sparks and saw movement from the corner of her eye. She smiled knowing things were heading in her favor. ”What am I doing? Defending myself from Lily. She started throwing spells at me and I didn’t want to get hurt, so I blocked some of them and then sent a few curses back her way. Unfortunately for her, she chose unwisely and got her ass beat.” Kara explained in a soft ditzy tone, it almost, almost sounded innocent, kind of what Lily did to her daddy, but anyone who knew Kara, knew she was the furthest thing from innocent. ”Don’t make me do this Luc” Kara had her wand raised ready to fire. She noticed that her twin had come up behind Lily in the corner of her eye and she smiled. Things were going in her favor, just like always.

Lily watched as these two duked it out. She was just sitting there silent ready to help Luc if he needed it. Well she would have if she still had her wand in her hand. It was like a whirlwind, one moment her wand was in her hand and the next it had fallen out of her hand as her hands were now bound and she was struggling to break free. As she did a large hand came across her pristine face and smacked it. ”Silence! Quit moving and watch the show” it said and she knew that voice anywhere. Alex had bound her and he was holding her down, she knew she could get out of this, she just had to be smart about it. Her cheek really hurt, it was stinging. This was the last time she would ever be nice to the Johnson’s. ”Luc, be careful” she had gotten out before she was gagged like a muggle. Things were not looking good for her and she tried to wiggle her legs, but Alex had used the leg locker spell on her. How did she not see this coming.

Alex had been enjoying his free time away from the castle when he sensed his twin’s rage, he knew this couldn’t be good for whomever was on the receiving side of her irritation, so he got up from his spot and went off to find her. It didn’t take too long because Lily had made a huge scene in the path outside the three broomsticks. Alex chuckled when he thought of all the hell they had put the owner and barkeeps through in the past. He watched as things unfolded. Lily had stuck her foot in her mouth this time and watched as Kara had drug her into an alleyway close to where he was at. He moved slightly so he could see what was going on and stayed out of sight. Alex was pleasantly surprised by Lily’s guts, but she was foolishly stupid for thinking she could take on Kara alone.

Once things had simmered down a bit he had quietly got closer to the action and he noticed that Kara was facing away from Lily. ’Luc’ Alex thought to himself and snuck up behind Lily and cast the leg locker spell and grabbed her hands, binding them behind her back, causing her to drop her wand to the ground. ”Deal with him, i’ve got this one” he said as she tried to wiggle out of his bindings. ”Stop it, you’re only going to hurt yourself further” Alex said quietly so only Lily could hear and he slapped her hard across the face.
