It had been sometime since Kara Malfoy had reflected on her troubled past. She had been thinking about all the terrible things that she had done as a teenager and how it shaped her life now as an adult. The only anchor she had was her husband Scorpius Malfoy, she often thought that because his grandfather had defiled their last name in the last wizarding war, the name Malfoy meant nothing but just a laughing stock when it was brought up. However, being married to her and her family’s history gave their name back some credit. It was at times like this when Kara fought so hard to keep herself from reverting back to her old ways.
There was no one around, Scorpius had been away for work for sometime now and she was at her wits end on trying to keep positive. “Breathe in and out, my love” Scorpious always reminded her, but it seldom worked. The last thing she wanted to do was contact her twin brother who had been her best friend since birth. They had gotten into so much trouble together, it was a wonder their lengthy list of bad things that they had been caught for wasn’t longer. Alex Johnson’s marriage hadn’t ended . He tried to have a successful marriage like the one Kara had with Scorp, but Izzy or Izabella, Alex’s wife, wasn't having any of his shenanigans. Alex had a harder time trying to turn a new leaf than she did. Izzy did everything she could to try and get him to stay away from all the darkness that seemed to consume him, they even had a few beautiful children together. Kara knew from the start that they weren’t going to be the right fit for each other.
Izabella Jodine was a Beauxbaton’s Academy Alumni who came to Hogwarts during the year of the tri-wizard tournament. She met Alex unexpectedly when she was briefly at Hogwarts. It was like fate had Interviened for Alex. From there they hit it off and eventually Alex knocked her up. Izzy and Alex broke up and they were both heart broken, it wasn’t until years later that they got back together.
All their lives Kara and Alex Johnson were inseparable, it wasn’t until Kara met Scorpius that things changed. She was headed down a very dark path like all her family members before her and that was just how she was trained from a very young age by her uncle. Kara had done the most vile things growing up, unimaginable things, things that would have made he-who-must-not-be-named very proud. Kara shuttered and came back to reality, shocked, she jumped back to see both of her children standing in front of her.
Both of her children that disowned her because of the choices she had made in her life. What were they doing here? She wondered as she looked up at them wide eyed. “Wh-what are you two doing here?” she forced out. Alec looked down at his mother and began speaking in a stern voice. “There’s a war brewing, and you’re going to have to make a choice soon. Which side are you going to be on?” Alec was interrupted by his sister Selene. “Even in the muggle world, they know something is going on. You’re brother made his choice, you need to make yours. You can’t stay neutral forever.”
Just then Scorpius had appartated into the house and rushed to Kara’s side. She sensed he knew something but it wasn’t the time to pry for information. Something was off about these two. Scorpius had been on an extremely secretive assignment and had been gone for months and all of a sudden he was back home. Things didn’t add up right. Kara was one of the very few people who had ever mastered both Occulemens and Legimens. She forced her way into Scorpius’ mind and searched to see if it was truly him and what had happened. Terrible things were coming about and his mission had been compromised. She came out of it and grabbed Scorpius’ hand and gently squeezed it.
Kara then occupied Selene’s mind, because it was the easier one of the two. Selene had been disgusted of her parent’s lineage and all the terrible things that befell the wizarding world and how magic seemed to change people, so she left and lived a mostly magic free life with the no maj’s in the states. However, it wasn’t until she had lived with muggles that she realized that she was wrong. Selene was just too much like her father to face her mother after all the horrible things that she had said before she had left. She had made her choice and she had been living with the consequences ever since. It didn’t look like anything was different about Selene other than what she had stated. Now that she knew that her daughter wanted to come home she felt happier inside, but didn’t want to say anything.
The only person who was going to be tough to crack was her son Alec. He was a hit-wizard, so he was used to this type of abuse. She could plant false memories in his head but he would see right through them. Kara knew the only way to get inside his head but it was at the cost of her marriage and her children and she was trying everything in her power to not let the darkness take over. It had been buried for so long that it had been trying to claw its way to the top for quite some time. “Don’t even think about trying to invade my mind. It won’t work. You don’t have the skills needed Kara.” Alec burst out interrupting Kara’s thoughts. Did he honestly not know that she was skilled in both arts? She knew it was exceptionally rare and only one other person was known to have mastered both Occlumency and Legimency. Scorpius looked up at Kara and squeezed her hand. “Do it, it’s okay. I’m here with you, always.” Scorpius said softly to Kara and she let out a tear before turning to Alec and Selene. Kara quickly brought up her wand and took Alec off guard and held him by bending metal to spread apart his hands and feet. She swished her wand and trapped Selene in their safe room, out of harms way. “Don’t let go.” She called to Scorpius as she got up out of her chair clenching onto his hand tightly.
Scorpius had only witnessed Kara’s darkness once before when they were teens, and she had done a fantastic job at keeping it at bay, and he knew that it had been because of him. “Don’t you tell me what to do boy. You have no idea what I am capable of. You have no idea what your family is capable of.” Kara said very sinisterly, it actually frightened Alec a bit to see his mother like this and his father keeping so calm. Kara muttered a curse and sent it straight through Alec’s body. He hadn’t ever felt a spell this powerful before and he cringed in pain. He wouldn’t scream, he wouldn’t give into this pain. “I-I-won’t give in” was All Alec could mutter before he was hit again and he cringed again in pain, gritting his teeth this time. Kara hit him once more and he heard Alec scream, crying out in agony. It was at that moment she entered his mind and found something quite interesting. It was a poisonous magical creature that entered your body and grew stronger from your energy, it made you become angry and volatile until it consumed you. Almost like a parasite. Kara fought with the creature and eventually was able to cast it out and destroy it. She was back to her old self again, she could feel the dark magic coursing through her veins and she was enjoying it, struggling to put a cap on it and bury it again. Alec was still writhing from the pain caused by his mother and possibly from the parasitic like creature. Scorpius still holding onto Kara’s hand slowly let go only to embrace her tightly and force her to the ground. “It’s over my love, it’s over” Scorpius gently kissed her lips and looked deep into her eyes.
It was then that Scorpius realized someone else had apparated into their home and had been watching them. He wasn’t sure if this were a good thing or not, so he waved Kara’s wand and released Alec and he was back to his feet, ready to fight. “Come here and hold down your mother, you are no match for him.” Scorpius called out to Alec and he came straight to his father without question. Scorpius stood up and pulled out his wand. Looking at his brother-in-law Alex he wasn’t sure what to make of him. “Are you here to help or take her away?” Scorpius called out to Alexander Johnson, Kara’s twin. Alex smirked and began speaking. “Scorpius, put down your wand, you know you aren’t a match for me. I felt the darkness float to the surface in my sister and I was concerned.” Alex quietly stepped to the side opening the safe room door. “Oh look, the whole family is together. Did you patch things up or come to warn your mother and father?” Asked Alex. Kara tried to fight off her son telling him she was alright but he didn’t believe her. “Don’t listen to him, father he isn’t himself. I think he’s infected.” blurted out Alec to Scorpius. “He’s not infected Alec. This is his true self.” Scorpius replied. Selene now free ran over to help her brother. “What do you mean Scorp?”
Alex smiled because he knew soon he would have his sister back and the man who stole her from him would be dead. Alex threw a curse at Scorpius's direction and Scorpius blocked it with no problem and blocked the other two that Alex was hoping would surprise him. “Haven’t you figured it out yet Alex? I have known you for more than twenty years, we went to the same school, I married your sister, and she taught me a lot about how you both work. Not to mention that my family did teach me a thing or two.” Scorpius said as he kept deflecting spell after spell and casting a few of his own. “You’re not taking her from me, not again and not ever. It’s not my fault you ruined your marriage. It’s not hers either.” Scorpius continued.
Alec and Selene struggled trying to keep their mother on the floor, they hadn’t ever seen her like this. Selene couldn’t take it any longer, so she started sobbing. “Not the best time Selene” Alec whispered to her, but she couldn’t help herself. “I’m so sorry mother. I wanted to come home not too long after I had left, but I couldn't face you. I’m a coward and I chose to live without family and I was miserable until Alec found me and a light fired up in me and…..” Selene paused. “ I’m so sorry” she continued as tears fell down her face and onto her mother’s cheek. Kara heard Selene as clear as day and wanted to say something but she couldn’t find the words to speak up with all her energy concentrated on fighting the darkness trying to consume her. It wasn’t until the tears had hit her face was she able to speak up. “It’s okay my sweet baby girl, I forgive you.” Kara said softly and then turned and looked at Alec. “I know you’ll probably never forgive me Alec, but I love you so much. I did the one thing that i promised myself I would never do, and for that I am sorry.” she said before looking out into the distance at her twin.
“Let go of me Alec, it’s okay, i’m okay.” Kara writhed from under Alec before he released her. She got up and went straight to her husband’s side. “He’s right you know, you dug your own grave.” Kara fired an exceptionally powerful spell out of her wand and knocked her brother to the ground. “I will kill you, if needed.” she uttered through her teeth at her brother. With the darkness completely consuming her, she was surprisingly still able to keep control of her actions. “Oh dear sister you have no idea what i’ll do to you.” Alex grinned as he disapparated and re apparated pulling his niece Selene in front of him. “You...!” Alec started but was stopped abruptly by his mother and he watched as his uncle hit the floor, but he wasn’t begging for mercy. He took the pain and dispersed it. Alec wondered how it was possible for him to do that. Kara pushed her way into his mind and forced him to put down his wand. Scorpius rushed over and kicked it away and went to comfort his daughter. Kara walked over to her brother slowly. “Did you really think that I was going to continue to blast you with curses, when i know full well that they won’t work on you?” Kara spoke to her brother.
“Alec, grab Izabella Jodine-Johnson and bring her here.” Alec left without question and within a few minutes Izzy had appeared with Alec. “Now I know you still have feelings for her.” Kara stated as she grabbed Izzy’s arm and pulled her against her. She wasn't going to do any harm to Izzy, it was just to get Alex to come back to the light. “Mother what are you doing?” Alec asked hoping that she wasn’t about to do something terrible. Izzy tried to pull away, but she knew that Kara was no match for her. “Kara please…what are you doing?” Izzy yelped. “Blah, blah, blah… same story, different tune. Kara stop, Alex please. You can go home when i’m done with you.” Kara looked at her brother who was now just getting to his feet. Kara’s wand was at Izzy’s throat and Izabella was looking at Alex, begging in her eyes for him to save her. Alex looked into Izzy’s eyes and he was starting to break, he knew it and Kara knew it.
His sister always knew how to cheat, but in all fairness he did just do the same thing to her daughter. “Now if we’re all finished here…. There is a war coming and we all need to be prepared.” Kara released Izzy and she backed away from all of them. Kara knew that Izabella had given up magic and broke her wand, but she wasn’t sure if Alex knew that. “Izzy...Izabella… I’m so sorry.” Alex spoke in a soft but broken voice. Izzy broke down and started to cry. Alex ran over to her, but didn’t touch her. “Alexander, you’re such a doll, helping a damsel in distress, maybe you should try and patch things up and try and get them to last this time… that is if she’ll take you back again.” Kara said viciously to her twin.
She had better control over her powers and her body now that she wasn’t being held back by trying to force the darkness back inside of her, but this spelled bad news for her and her family. “Kara try and be reasonable. I don’t want to see you like this anymore, come home to me my love.” Scorpius said with his hand outstretched for her. Kara walked to him and took it and smiled, but the moment she took Scorpius’ hand he felt something different in himself also, something dark, something from his past trying to resurface. This wasn’t a good thing, this wasn’t a good thing at all. This meant something big was coming and it was going to affect every single person, magical and muggle. The world was going to have to fight and it was going to be a lot bigger than the last one. He just wasn’t so sure that the world would be able to take on such a threat like this, since it had been decades since the last.
“I know” Izabella finally spoke up, breaking the silence. “But i don’t know if i can forgive you this time. After everything that has happened, i don’t know if i can ever trust you or your family again.” she continued. “Let me make it up to you, may I?” Alex replied, holding out his hand. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come. I put you all at risk, but you’re welcome sis. Now you’ll be prepared.” Alex continued and Izzy hesitantly put her small petite hand in his and they disapparated. After they had left Selene and Alec stood across from their parents. “It makes so much more sense why you were so hard on us now.” Alec realized why his mother had now done the things that she had done. “Okay mom. You need to start from the beginning and don’t leave out any details, I need to know everything.” Alec stated all riled up and ready to go.
Kara looked longingly into Scorpius’ eyes. They both were changing and she wasn’t sure if it were for better or worse. It was probably the first time in her life that she was truly afraid of what could happen. Scorpius too was afraid of what is happening to them, but he wasn’t going to think about that at the moment, he just wanted to enjoy this moment with his entire family. “Alright, I'll explain Alec.” but before she could Selene piped up over the top of Kara. “Mom, Dad, I want you to teach me how to be better so I can fight. I don’t want to be captive like that again. It frightened me.” Alec looked a little shocked, but Kara and Scorpius weren’t. Scorpius knew that Selene was more of a gentler soul and wanted to help people, but one day he knew she was going to have to toughen up. “Of course darling, we’ll have Alec help you. Right now i’m not sure if your father and I are really the people to teach you anything right now. We both really didn’t have the greatest influences growing up.” Kara tried to explain
“I’m sorry I treated you like that Alec, I never meant to hurt you or push you away.” As Kara spoke, Alec came closer and embraced his mother for possibly the first time in his life. “I know mum” Kara placed her hand on his head, the other on Selene and Scorpius’ hands. She pushed her thoughts and memories into their heads and did not leave anything out. Her entire life story, the good, the bad and everything in between was flowing through her family’s minds and when it came up to the present Alec spoke again. “Mum...I asked you to do it and you wouldn’t give in until I begged you to as a young man and I realize now that you were doing it for my own protection. I never realized what that feeling was inside me until now. There’s a darkness in the pureblood line that affects some a lot stronger than others and no matter how hard we try and fight it, eventually it always comes to the surface. It doesn’t affect all purebloods, some like Selene live worry free not fighting against this feeling of enjoying every kill, arrest or curse you send from your wand.” Alec explained to his mum and dad. “I am afraid that the feeling, although not as strong as yours is inside me and that’s probably why I always wanted to be a hit-wizard, I have that dark feeling inside my blood every time someone tries to push my buttons and I have given in each and every time, but it doesn’t seem to be fighting me as it is with you and dad, or even Uncle Alex. It’s like its second nature to me and it flows with me, like we’re in sync.” Alec explained.
Kara and Scorpius listened and took in what their son was saying. Finally one of them spoke “It isn’t quite the same Alec, your right. Your mother and I were raised in a time where the world was trying to recover from war. Some families tried to start new and others went back to their old ways. Cautious and waiting and preparing for when the time came for the next war.” Scorpius explained “But, it didn’t come and our families shared stories of when they were young and caught up in the middle of the war and why it was important that we always be prepared.” Kara stated and then continued “Except some of the families, like mine and your father’s were just cruel about it and just wanted to prepare you for when the next dark wizard comes along. As you now know, it wasn’t ever peaches and cream for us growing up. It was a different time, a much darker time, and I fear we are headed down a much darker path this time around.”
Alec took in everything his parents were saying and Selene was still trying to wrap her head around everything that she was shown. She didn’t realize how powerful her family actually was and she became a healer. “You know there isn’t anything wrong with being a healer Selene, not everyone can fight. If everyone was able to, then who would heal the wounded or dying?” Kara remarked to her daughter. Alec also did not realize that his mother knew both mind bending powers. They weren’t common gifts to begin with and he didn’t know anyone who had ever mastered both. Selene gave a slight smile to her mother as she took her left hand in hers. “I know, but I just feel like i could do more.” Alec stepped back away from his mother and father and took Selene’s hand. “I promise we will be back to learn everything we can from the two of you, but I need to report back and Selene can stay with me, we both know that you have a lot going on here. I love you mom, dad.” Alec said, Selene nodded and Alec disapparated with Selene, leaving Kara and Scorpius alone.
“Darling, have I told you lately that i’ve missed you terribly and need a little something from you.” Kara smiled and kissed him passionately between the last few words of her sentence. Scorpius smiled and pulled his wife onto the couch and crawled on top of her. “No, but i’ve been away too long.” He said as he began undressing his very attractive wife. “I’m glad we were compromised in the sense that I get to fuck my beautiful wife over and over again to make up for all the lost time we’ve had.” Scorpius said and took her into him. After the many hours they spent intimately getting to know each other again all over the house, Kara fell asleep in Scorpius’ arms in their king size bed. Scorpius laid awake thinking about to stopper the darkness that was slowly escaping from the depths of his inner being. Something that he had bottled up before he had met Kara.
There was no one around, Scorpius had been away for work for sometime now and she was at her wits end on trying to keep positive. “Breathe in and out, my love” Scorpious always reminded her, but it seldom worked.
